Raising Awareness, Lifting Communities

National Volunteer Week 2019

MORE THAN EVER BEFORE, trends such as urbanization, emerging technology and climate change are demanding greater collaboration and communication between businesses, governments and communities. The rise of initiatives supported by the United Nations for both the private and public sector provide international frameworks for companies and governments to support global, sustainable solutions. But creating value for the economy and new prospects for our communities to develop will not come from any one strategy. Instead, it will require the combination of efforts across many partnerships, sectors and levels.

This Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating how individual contributions strengthen our communities to grow and thrive for years to come. Looking, for example, at the six United Nations-Supported Principles for Responsible Investment or the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), no single objective would be possible without the involvement and impact of individuals.

As a long-term infrastructure investor, InstarAGF has a unique opportunity  to invest sustainably, and to foster social and environmental value in the communities in which we operate. Quality infrastructure plays a key role in improving quality of life, growing socio-economic opportunities and reducing inequalities by providing essential services such as electricity, water, heat and transportation.

Across InstarAGF’s portfolio, initiatives supporting local organizations, charities, and non-profits are continuing to keep local communities active, healthy and inclusive. Whether it is supporting global charitable organizations, providing mentorship for future leaders, or serving on boards or investment committees such as ArtsBuild Ontario and The Atmospheric Fund, I am proud to highlight just a few of the diverse programs our team supports here in Toronto:

Habitat for Humanity (GTA)

Building safe, affordable housing for local families and growing communities, with over 360 homes built in the Greater Toronto Area alone.

Okanagan Wind Scholarship

Providing academic opportunities for First Nations communities in the Okanagan region of British Columbia through annual scholarships and student tours of wind power facilities.

 Right to Play

Protecting, educating and empowering millions of children across 15 countries as they face the harsh realities of war, abuse, disease and lack of access to education.

The Stop

Encouraging access to healthy food that builds community and challenges inequality in the Toronto area.

True Patriot Love

Funding mental health and physical rehabilitation for military families through community-based programs for Canadian soldiers and veterans.

World Parkinson’s Program

Promoting education, providing supportive services and advocacy for Parkinson’s patients and caregivers around the world.
